So, for magic, gestures and incantations activate different parts of the brain, possibly through various neural cross-links. Basically you get a highly complicated “lens.” It’s all a guess, though, I mean science is still trying to figure out all the great stuff the brain does in real life.

Did ancients create those devices, or just specification of what they should do is up for a debate.
